MOSCOW, Jan 22 (PRIME) -- Russia and Japan see positive trends in economic cooperation, but no quality improvements have happened yet, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday in a news conference following his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
“Speaking of general things, economic cooperation between Russia and Japan is going on positively, there are obvious achievements. But mister Shinzo Abe and I share the opinion that no quality improvements have happened yet, and the two countries have not yet used the potential of their cooperation to the fullest extent,” he said.
Putin and Abe discussed the idea of working out ambitious plans to expand cooperation in the key spheres like investment or technological cooperation.
“In particular, we may set the goal of raising trade turnover between Russia and Japan by 50% to at least U.S. $30 billion in the several coming years,” Putin said.
